I was driving to office amidst usual traffic worsened by cab drivers with rash driving. As expected a cab overtook me, almost kissing my car. I could not do much at that moment, noted down the registeration number and followed the cab. Landed up in a BPO compny near ITPL, The security did not allow me in. I talked to the head of admin department, he invited me in. He requested me to give a written complaint, i did. Within 10 mins he showed me a letter, which was suspension order for cab driver.
Surprising, isn't it? But sometimes pursuasion pays off(stating this with hope that he really gets suspended! planning to check it tomorrow.)
I lost around 40 mins in all these, but at the end of it i am satisfied :-)

Awesum! Way to go, pal.
Hi
My short stint at a bpo made me realise that the drivers are penalised if they do not reach on time at the call centre. It doesnt matter if the people who were picked took extra time in getting ready for work or traffic was bad or the adresses of new employees were almost impossible to find without spending time.
They are made to work in back to back shifts so that the vehicle is optimally utilised, whichh means they go without sleep for 48 hrs at a stretch. This explains accidents, rash driving. It does not mean that it gives them the right to put life of others at stake. It just goes to show that the real people responsible for this mess are the bpo admin and the travel agents who own these vehicles and employ these poorly paid drivers lured to work without sleep with ot. These agents and admin ppl also need to be taken to the task. If you have a plan in mond count me in.

mond-mind*
oops my typos ...will mind them next time :)
@Sushruta: Yeah, this is exactly what I've been thinking of. I've been told this, but this is the first time I've heard a first hand account. There's no point in treating the symptom rather than the cause. Any suggestions?
Having shown some brief sympathy with what you said let me give you concrete arguments against what you said:
1. If you are exploited, should you use that as an excuse to get away with anything?
2. The call center vehicles are not the only ones who drive rashly. Thats just one class of vehicles. Every passenger vehicle with a yellow plate drives rashly, zipping along with little regard to road sense or safety. What about vehicles employed by non BPO companies, what about private taxis? Is everybody exploited? I take a taxi every time I have to catch a flight, and every time I've had to ask the driver to follow traffic rules.
3. Its easier to catch the drivers and take them to task. If enough people do that, these drivers might just start refusing to work crazy shifts. Though this might be easier said than done.
4. I've seen these drivers break every single rule in the book, from wrong U turns, to weaving in and out of traffic, honking from behind, driving with their headlights on full beam. You expect me to believe all this is because of bad working conditions. I don't buy your argument. And I've seen these guys violently arguing with traffic policemen and getting away with it.
5. Do an experiment next time. Drive normally, follow traffic rules, measure how much time it takes. After than, in the same traffic conditions, drive rashly. Do all the things that drivers do. Measure the time. You will take at most 5 mins less in the latter case. Your BP will be higher, you will suffer from road rage, you would have caused great annoyance to others. All at the cost of reaching 5 minutes earlier.
6. Why do we have traffic rules? In any civilized country that follows some semblance of traffic rules, the public good is greater than individual good. So while each individual person might take 5 mins more or less, society as a whole will be more productive and efficient. This is well understood by people, or enforced by the police. When will this understanding come to Indians? By following traffic rules, you make traffic flow smoothly, without snarls and thus everybody benefits.
I love you guys!!! What you're doing is awesome... You're making Bangalore better and you're inspiring people like me do likewise.. way to go!
As I mentioned, the problems cab drivers face should not be an execuse at all. All I am saying is let us also target the root cause, the bigger monsters who are really responsible for this mess. Am willing to walk the extra mile ... lets discuss a way to make these BPO admins and travel agencies take notice and take corrective steps.
Hi,
The cab drivers are the worst people in the Bangalore city. To name a few all cabs which carry Gowda's on their back have one of the worst n rash drivers ever since. There is no binding rule for these cab drivers they are the worst drivers in the city. They don't for anyone.
I had an experience last night near lalbagh a TT cab carrying KA05 B6846 in the heavy rain was driving so rashly that he never even thought of other commutators on road and was driving on an over speed and i almost lost my balance due to the water force.
We got to come up with something on these cab drivers. they are the ruthless.
