The usual rash cab driving- update

And the game is over .......
The driver is suspended. He does not work there any more. I got this confirmation from the head of the admin department of the BPO company.

did u get a ego boost by taking his job? the driver would have been pressured by the admin to keep up with the time. this guy was probably the only bread winner for his family. if u want to be a real hero, take on the people responsible for this situation and not the small fish. go and party, u loser.

Why the hell will a call center driver put himself to risk in driving crazy, he maybe knocked off by a truck or a BMTC bus, it is just for saving 100 Rs that is cut from his pay if he comes late to office ... he has to bore the brunt if a employee takes time to dress up, forgets cell phone or badge and goes to pick it up making him wait and others. In addition to the erratic pedestrains crossing and generous amount of fauna (cows, dogs, etc) on the road, he has to beat all odds to save his 100 Rs everyday.

Hawkeye seems to be inspired by his suspension, I am sure this slacker would have cursed if someone took his salary for not his mistake, and gave him a suspension for the same.

sad to hear that you targetted the salary of a lower income guy who gets utmost 4K per month.

@nagraj, dileep, anon.. :
Yes it is sad ....
But i am not sad about taking his job. I am sad about the way these drivers are treated @ their office.

Let's say that i did a mistake .... do you have a cure for this problem. Just empathy with driver does not work .. ...
You are eligible to do so if you have a cure for the problem. Let's come up with logical solution to it.

the only thing sad about this episode is your mistake ... but I am sure it was from your ignorance ... hope all the bloggers have given you a ray of reality in otherwise dark vision of yours ...

if you keep suspending drivers like this, we will have to hitch a ride on your vehicle ...

Ravi said...

@nagraj: I dont regret ....
No .....
You better start realizing the situation now or you may regret later.

What will you do when one of these cabs comes and crashes on you?
Will you just say that "poor driver of the cab .. earnes only 4000/- a month and let him kill ppl or crash on other cars or let him drive they way he wants."

I do understad that probably i am not targetting the root of the problem ..... but please come-up with a better solution.

regret please ... tomorrow's blog will be .... "The usual stray dog attack - update", the dog gets a suspension from the street and eats shit in the next one and shits in the suspended street

Ravi, now what I can suggest is forcing the admin to penalise the travel agent and chalk policies which in a way dont "force" the drivers to be rash. It would help if you or someone knows an employee of the bpo who can help us with this. It also puts at stake the life of bpo employees after all.

@sushruta :
That is a nice idea. I will talk to the admin of the BPO, try to find a way.

Ravi, don't mind some of the comments above. The important thing is that you are willing to bring a change in the system ...

@nagraj, dileep, regret please, and other misguided people out there: 1. Please save your words and act. This is an informative blog. Ravi is not asking for your permission, nor is he waiting for people like you to act. He is doing something he believes in. If you guys don't like it, too bad. Give a cut from your salary to the cab drivers but keep your BS off this site.
2. How many times have you guys actually done something useful for society? What gives you the moral right to condone what someone else is doing? All you guys want to do is shoot off at the mouth. If you are so concerned about the loss of the driver's job, please go about educating them about rash driving, go to their bosses and make them listen. Until you do that, please feel deeply ashamed and don't leave a comment here anymore.

again @nagraj, dileep, regret please, and other misguided people out there: You people are hypocrites. Its very easy to preach from your ivory tower. Heaven forbid that tomorrow one of these taxis should ram your vehicle, injure or kill your wife or children or you. Then we will see where all this generosity and misplaced magnanimity towards the driver goes. Then you will be frantically calling up the police, your "connections" and who-have-we to get the driver punished to the greatest extent possible. Lets see how generous you are then to say "poor guy, he was driven to rash driving because of the admin people or the travel agent, lets go after them instead". Ha ha ha.

hawkeye - all you have done is saved 2 Rs

And for ravi, the assumption for everyone is that he was driving properly and the cab driver wasnt, how can one validate that, he may infact be not driving well too ...

mas0To those who have snubbed Ravi for 'taking' the job of the taxi driver, here is an anecdote! An year back an employee of of one of the Big3 IT companies was killed when the cab in which he was travelling rammed into a lorry! Now the cabbie survived, as he managed to ram the cab only on the side the employee was sitting! This was at 2 AM in the night and the accident happened because the cab driver fell asleep for a couple of seconds, during which he lost control of the cab! An investigation later revealed that the cabbie was working during the day at another place and taking this as a night job, for the extra pay! As a result he was working 24 hours straight! Now no one was 'forcing' him to work that many hours, the said IT company has a strict screening test and background check! That accident happened only due to the carelessness of the driver! The company later stopped cab drops between 12 midnight and early morning!

I've said all this just to point out the fact that in most cases, it is the cab drivers to blame, as they work long hours, become tired, irritable and drive rashly!

In this particular case, Ravi might have been wrong, but the difference between you guys and him is that he chose to do something about a problem we all face on Bangalore roads everyday!

Ravi,

All praise due to God alone. Watever steps you have taken, is good...cos of the intention...see, as a human, if we do sth, which we think as good..may be harmful to someone else...this is wat happenned in t driversa dn ur case. He drove in rashness cos getting in time mattered him, and u complained to see tat he got suspended. Nobody is wrong I wud say, cos we dunno wat t criteria of t driver..as there are always good drivers and bad. But what I wud suggest is, talk to ur own admin-heads...wherever u are working....i hope u shud have a admin who manages t details n data of cabs running for t firm.Talk to them, and make them understand in a pleasing way that, plus or minus 5 minutes doesnt matter when it comes to lives.As he has laid rules for the drivers, so does the government for traffic, so does t family members for office goers, and so and so forth.Betterment is in adjusting and accpeting.Hence please talk to the people at high ends, top officials who run t lives of rivers..and try to bring a change in t protocols they set / criteria to recruit a driver. For eg., if covering 5 km within 2 minutes is a criteria..that could be changed to grading on t basis of obeying traffic rules, behaving in a 'humane' way during driving, no reckless driving etc...as we have the feedbcak frm given by t admin for those employees who use cabs from t employer, in t feedbcak form we can add a column for driving ethics..wat he maintained, wat not...and according to tat t admin can judge n continue further. hope this helps.

hey Ravi,

I'm on your side, man... and thanks to you guys, I've taken up a cause of my own. Just 2 days back, on the outer ring road, I saw a Tempo Traveller being driven like an ambulance, narrowly missing me and other motorists on the road.

Initially I thought it WAS an ambulance but then I saw the vehicle picking up random passengers on the road. On closer inspection, I saw the 'Sapient' logo stuck to the rear window of the vehicle. Other than ambulances, I've never seen a vehicle being driven that way on such busy nights on roads like the Outer Ring Road.

Anyways, I memorized the registration number of the vehicle and today, I called up Sapient and made a complaint against this particular driver. The transport guys at Sapient were very receptive and promised me they'll take it up with their transport vendor. He even promised to call me back tomorrow and update me on the progress.

This is first complaint of this kind that I've made ever. And I wouldn't have taken this so seriously if I didn't think this driver was endangering the lives of other motorists, including me.

I'm glad I did this and I will encourage this kind of action among my friends too.

Thanks for inspiring me! :-)

Keep up the fight...

Stumbled upon your blog. Interesting reading. Hats off dude that you've you-know-what-I-mean to 'chase' him till his 'hide-out'. Don't ever feel bad reading the pseudo-magnanimity some tried to display for 1) you didn't want them to have him suspended - did you? All you wanted is to have the incident reported and the punitive action was the company's discretion. 2) As all those who have grey matter where it's ought to be said those who clamor for his lost job will get to know the meaning of your words only when something untoward happens to themselves or their dear ones. Pray they don't learn the hard-way.
Those BIG-Hearts - Do you condone a hairstylist's carelessness when he takes some more hair than you wanted just because he perhaps could be the sole bread-winnder much less said of losing limbs and lives? Just curious - can some one who earns Rs.101/- or more per day stands good to be suspended? ;)
